About Instructor Authorization Sessions

To ensure high-quality learning experiences for course participants, ICA meets with every new instructor before they become authorized to teach an ICA-accredited class. Candidates are assessed against our authorization rubric items, and can be assessed for applicable delivery methods (in-person and/or remote).

• Duration: 1 Hour
• Price: USD 500
• Who Should Attend: One candidate instructor. Instructors seeking authorization for ICP-ACC, ICP-CAT, ICP-ENT, and ICP-COA may need to first complete a competency assessment.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The ICA accreditor will lead the session to achieve the following: 

1. Ensure the instructors can explain how the accredited course material maps to the relevant LOs so ICA can ensure a consistent foundation for course participants globally.
2. Vet the instructors’ domain knowledge in the subject they intend to teach and their ability to teach the topic.
3. New instructors will be expected to present a 10-minute portion of the course as if they were teaching it in a class. For remote delivery, every instructor will also facilitate an exercise using the remote tools.
4. Ensure the instructor is equipped to inform course participants of the criteria for certification for the specific course and that instructors commit to marking course participants as "not eligible" if they do not meet the stated criteria.

Upon successful completion of the Instructor Authorization Session, the candidate will be authorized to deliver the corresponding course.

If the instructor does not meet all requirements for authorization in the initial session, the accreditor will outline the gaps that need addressing and may schedule a single follow-up session at their discretion. If the gaps are unable to be met within 6 months from the initial session or require significant development, the candidate instructor will not be authorized and the session instance will be considered complete. A new Instructor Authorization Session may be scheduled for a future authorization attempt.
