Criteria for Instructor Authorization

All candidate instructors are assessed using the following criteria:

Candidate will pass if they...
INSUFFICIENT
Candidate will NOT pass if they...
Understanding of the Learning Outcomes
Exhibit knowledge of the LOs and how they are met in the courseware.
• Cannot explain how the acceptance criteria for a learning outcome relate to the LO context and purpose.
• Cannot provide an example or explanation to convey the underlying intent behind a learning outcome.
• Cannot describe an activity or experiential aspect which will ensure the theme level acceptance criteria are met for a specific theme.
• Simply read back the content in the learning outcomes without providing additional content and rationale.
Are able to clearly show how the theme level acceptance criteria are met in the course content.
Domain Experience
Have a minimum of 2 years of experience practicing or coaching in the relevant domain.
• Only have experience in the domain limited to a single perspective (e.g., one role, one framework, one organization).
• Only have theoretical knowledge of the domain.
• Have not practiced or coached practitioners in the domain.
• Are unable to provide examples from their own experience of real-world challenges in the domain and how they have been overcome.
Can bring multiple perspectives and relate those perspectives to the content through stories and examples from their own experience.

Training & Facilitation Demonstration

(Instructors who have completed the Training & Facilitation Demonstration do not need to repeat it unless they are not in compliance with our maintenance policies.)

Present in a style that is interactive, engaging, confirms learners' understanding and focuses on the learner rather than the content.

• Are unable to convey the content effectively.
• Present in a flat or lecturing style and don't confirm understanding.
• Do not respond to participant questions in a way that invites further participation and understanding.
• Do not provide an adequate explanation of practical activities.
• Do not debrief exercises in a manner that confirms and reinforces the learning.

Debriefing the Coaching Demo Can identify and explain the techniques used in the coaching demonstration sample • Have not viewed the coaching demonstration samples prior to the session
• Do not debrief the coaching demonstration sample in a manner that confirms and reinforces the learning
• Cannot identify and explain the techniques used in the coaching demonstration sample
Coaching Ethics
Can clearly articulate how they actively uphold Agile Coaching Ethical Standards.

• Cannot explain the similarities and differences between the Agile Coaching Ethics Standards and Professional Coaching Ethical Standards.
Explain how they have resolved ethical conflicts as an Agile Coach while actively doing Professional Coaching for a client. • Cannot articulate when to refer clients to another support professional as needed
• Cannot identify when this is needed and the available resources.
• Cannot articulate the distinctions between coaching, consulting, psychotherapy, and other support professions
Team Coaching
Can clearly articulate how to coach the client team as a single entity • Cannot clearly articulate how to coach the client team as a single entity
• Cannot identify the differences in approach to coaching teams rather than individuals
Can articulate the importance of, and how they incorporate the team coaching competencies within their role as an Agile Coach.
