      Self-Paced Course Design Guidelines

      Member Organizations can now offer self-paced courses to support organizations that are providing foundational learning journeys for their people.

      Course Eligibility

      Accreditation of self-paced offerings is currently only available for the following courses:

      • Agile Fundamentals (ICP)
      • Business Agility Foundations (ICP-BAF)
      • Agile Project & Delivery Management (ICP-APM)
      • Agility in Marketing (ICP-MKG)

      Learning Management Systems

      The Learning Management System (LMS) is the backbone of the self-paced learning environment. The LMS must support modular course design, track learner progress, and provide the ability for learners to engage with instructors and each other. ICAgile does not have a preferred LMS. We encourage the Member Organization to determine which platform best meets their needs.

      Design Guidelines for Self-Paced Courses

      A self-paced course requires design elements that differ from instructor-led learning. Please be sure to:

      • Design a clear flow of the learning experience.
      • Consider self-paced learning patterns and how you are applying them to reinforce the learning.
      • Incorporate approaches to adult learning based on brain science, such as those contained in Sharon Bowman’s Training from the Back of the Room (TBR), to ensure learners are engaged in the content in multiple ways.
      • Create video recordings that are no longer than 10 minutes in length individually. A lesson may be made up of multiple recordings. There should be some reinforcement of the learning every 3-5 minutes.
      • Create highly-engaging video recordings, including a combination of instructor speaking, visuals, sounds, and actions to engage the learners.
      • Incorporate multiple techniques for validating knowledge comprehension such as quizzes, assignments, self-reflection, or engaging in activities.
      • Consider how learners will engage with the instructors and with each other to create a community of learners.
